Streetwear and t-shirt brand, Too Much Metal, celebrates 21 years of business on June 1, 2021. "I started this whole thing with a sticker 21 years ago from my 'warehouse apartment' on Prospect Avenue in Milwaukee," says Too Much Metal designer, Fred Gillich. "Too Much Metal has taken on a life of its own. It's been all over the world, in the movies, and rockstars from Led Zeppelin to Metallica have all thrown the horns or worn the t-shirt at one point or another."

MILWAUKEE — On Monday April 12th at NOON, 414 Milwaukee is proud to celebrate Milwaukee Day (April 14th) by unfurling the giant 414 Flag from the balcony of City Hall — again.

"In 2019 we dropped a giant 414 flag from City Hall to celebrate the good land. This time — a couple of years later — we're honoring the people of Milwaukee. We're honoring everyone's courage, life and memories during these unprecedented times," says Fred Gillich, 414 Milwaukee designer.

To celebrate this year's Milwaukee Day (4/14), the Nomad World Pub and 414 Milwaukee have teamed up to pour FREE 414 BEER for any Milwaukeean who's received either 1 or 2 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine shot and presents a valid CDC vaccination card.

This Milwaukee Day offering is limited to 2 free 14oz cups per person of 414 Beer while supply lasts. The festivities begin at 4:14pm until 10pm. 414 Milwaukee will also be on-site selling 414® brand apparel.

"This is just a small reward for Milwaukeeans who've done their part. And I can't think of a more Milwaukee thing to do than to have a beer — a free beer and make friends," says Fred Gillich of 414 Milwaukee.

The inaugural program features the Milwaukee Turners, an organization dedicated to fostering health of body and mind through an array of diverse programs in physical education, public forums, music and art events. Ignite the Spirit, an organization providing emotional and physical support and financial assistance to Milwaukee Firefighters during times of need. And Dream Lab, a business, art gallery and bar serving Milwaukeeans on National Avenue.

2 years ago I started the 414 Everyone shirt campaign to support a visible community movement of self-affiliation, as well as a facilitation of social equity.

This was an opportunity for Milwaukee to begin engaging with the complexity of how one’s identity is negotiated in the public space.

I’m continuing that idea and working to be a better human every day. I’m asking you to help too. I believe our light has weight. And we can throw our light around to do the continuous work of making Milwaukee a better place to live.

The idea with these shirts is to draw as many different populations into the circle (humanity) as possible.

So…understanding that when we respect each other’s humanity, a rich and diverse community is the future of Milwaukee.
